REG CNIC BIKE_NUMBER PROVINCE DDMMYYYY

Troubleshooting

Common mistakes that make the registration SMS fail

Most failed registrations come down to one of these.

Common registration mistakes and what to do instead
MistakeDo this instead
Texting from a relative's SIM, or one registered to a different CNICUse a SIM registered in your own name, under the same CNIC you type in the message
Leaving out digits of the CNICType all 13 digits of your CNIC
Writing the date with slashes, dashes or spaces, or in a different orderDay, month, year as eight digits with nothing in between, e.g. 02092026
Guessing the province letter from a table on another websiteOnly Sindh = S is confirmed. Check yours through an official channel first.
Missing the spaces between the parts of the messagePut one space between REG, the CNIC, the province letter and the date
Trying to use a token for a different vehicleEach token only works for the vehicle it was issued to

Stay safe: registration is free and only by SMS

  • No fees. Registration is free; you only pay Rs. 1.25 plus tax per SMS. Anyone asking for money to register you is not part of the scheme.
  • Never share your CNIC, OTP, bank details or PIN with anyone on a call, on WhatsApp or on a website.
  • The confirmed channel is SMS to 9771, published by the Ministry of IT & Telecom.
  • Code 786 is not a channel for this scheme, and helpline 1000 belongs to Punjab's separate Maryam Ko Batayn programme.
  • pmfuelrelief.pk: news sources disagree on whether it is official. Until that is confirmed, do not enter personal details there.

mkb.org.pk does not register anyone and never asks for your CNIC. Send the SMS yourself from your own SIM.

Questions

PM Fuel Relief Scheme 2026: frequently asked questions

What is the PM Fuel Relief Scheme 2026?

It is a federal scheme announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on 13 September 2026. Eligible motorcycle, rickshaw and small-car owners get Rs. 100 off every litre of petrol, up to a monthly limit. You register once by SMS to 9771 and then request a token each time you need fuel.

How do I register for the petrol relief through 9771?

From a SIM registered in your own name, type REG, your 13-digit CNIC, your vehicle/bike registration number, your province letter and your vehicle registration date as DDMMYYYY, each separated by one space, and send it to 9771. The CNIC in the message must match the CNIC the SIM is registered to.

What is my province code for the 9771 SMS?

The format uses the first letter of your province. Only one letter has been confirmed by name so far: Sindh = S. The other letters have not been officially published, so confirm yours through an official channel before sending. A wrong letter can make the registration fail.

How do I get a petrol token?

After registering, send TOK to 9771 whenever you need fuel. You receive a token by SMS and show it at the pump. The token is tied to your vehicle registration number, cannot be used for another vehicle, and simply expires if you do not use it.

How many litres of petrol can I get each month?

Motorcycles, rickshaws and other two- and three-wheelers can get up to 20 litres a month, 5 litres per token, once every 7 days. Cars up to 800cc can get up to 30 litres a month, 10 litres per token, once every 10 days.

Does registration cost anything?

Registration itself is free. Each SMS you send costs Rs. 1.25 plus tax. The government has said it will not ask beneficiaries for extra data or registration fees, so anyone asking you for money, an OTP or bank details to register you is not part of the scheme.

Are code 786, helpline 1000 or pmfuelrelief.pk ways to register?

The registration channel confirmed by the Ministry of IT & Telecom is SMS to 9771. Code 786 is not supported for this scheme. Helpline 1000 belongs to Punjab's separate Maryam Ko Batayn programme. Reports disagree about pmfuelrelief.pk, so we do not treat it as official.

Can someone else use my token?

No. The token is matched to your vehicle's registration number, so it cannot be transferred to another person or used for a different vehicle. Show it yourself at the pump, along with the vehicle it was issued for, when you buy your subsidised petrol.

What happens if I do not use a token?

An unused token simply expires. Nothing is deducted and nothing is lost beyond that token. You can request a new one once the waiting period for your vehicle has passed: 7 days for two- and three-wheelers, 10 days for cars up to 800cc.

Does the relief apply to diesel as well?

The confirmed relief is Rs. 100 off every litre of petrol. High-speed diesel, currently Rs. 403.32 per litre, is not part of what has been confirmed for this scheme, so do not assume a diesel discount until it is officially announced.

Is this the same as Punjab's Maryam Ko Batayn petrol subsidy?

No. The PM Fuel Relief Scheme is run by the federal government for all of Pakistan, including AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, and registration is by SMS to 9771. Maryam Ko Batayn is a separate Punjab government programme with its own portal, app and helpline. Registering for one does not register you for the other.

Ready to register?

Build your message in under a minute, send it to 9771 from your own SIM, and keep TOK ready for your first visit to the pump.
